Ruth A. Wortham
June 11, 1922 - March 5, 2016
Ruth A. Wortham, age 93, of Newark, DE, died peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2016.
Ruth was born in Felton, DE on June 11, 1922, and was a daughter of the late Walter and Harriet Lillian (Marker) Case. She attended school in Elkton and spent time in Boston with her cousin, Millie manufacturing munitions during World War II. Ruth attended beautician’s college in Wilmington and would later open Ruth’s Beauty Shop at her home in Newport. In 1948, she married her husband, Charles H. Wortham, Jr. and the couple shared nearly 61 years together. They spent many happy times roller skating and enjoyed traveling across the country.
A woman of faith, Ruth took great pride in serving God and was a longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church in Newport. Whether she was baking, gardening, sewing, making afghans or knitting sweaters, her greatest joy in life was her family. Ruth adored spending time with her children and playing with her grandchildren. She was always there to help and guide her loved ones. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on and she will be missed.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, Jr.; brothers, James Case and W. Walter Case; and sisters, Leora Moore, Maxine Lamplugh, Myrna Graybeal and Veryl Pugh. She is survived by her sons, Charles III (Linda), Kenneth (Caroljean) and Keith; and grandchildren, Lindsay Wortham, Kariann Orlowsky (Joseph) and Dan Gill.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff at the Brandywine Nursing Center in Wilmington.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, March 11, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where friends may call from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Ste. 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Linda
I just heard the news today when I went to get her for her hair appointment. I am so shocked and sad at her passing. I am happy to hear of her peaceful sending and am privileged to have spent many hours with her. We shared some very happy times and a few secrets that only she and I will know! The staff at BW has lost one of the most gracious and caring individuals. We are all feeling her loss. My love and prayers to her sons who were extremely attentive and loving to their mother. She is your angel now.

The Hanna/Kelly family
Our condolences to the family of Miss Ruthie. My mom-mom (Joan Hanna) was her roommate at Brandywine. Miss Ruthie was such a caring, kind woman. She was a wonderful roommate to my mom-mom and my entire family enjoyed seeing her day to day. She and my mom-mom must be catching up in Heaven now… it’s nice to picture that.
Our prayers are with her family during this time of loss.
