Ruth E. Kenny, age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

Born in Basking Ridge, NJ on December 7, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (Tewes) Corbin. Ruth was a New Jersey resident through her school years and worked for the Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, NJ.

Ruth’s first move was to Japan to join her husband who was stationed there with the U.S. Army. She was very happy there as well as impressed by the Japanese culture. Ruth’s first child, Saundra was also born while they were stationed in Japan. After a brief time back in the states it was off to Germany for over three years.

Returning from Germany, Ruth and her husband divorced and she began training and working at Veterans Hospital in Perryville, MD as a nurse’s assistant. There she met her second husband, Lawrence Kenny, who passed from multiple sclerosis after several years of happiness.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her grandson, Steven. She is survived by children, Saundra, Michael, and Terri; grandchildren, Jillian, Sarah, Takeshia, Andraya, and Jessica; and six great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 pm on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a celebration of life will begin at 12 pm. Interment will be held in New Jersey at the convenience of the family.

    What memories you have to cherish about your mom. I remember all your stories about her and the kids. She was a special lady.
