Ryan Michael Gsell
January 18, 1980 - July 20, 2023
Ryan Michael Gsell, age 43, of Bear, DE, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
Born in Wilmington, DE on January 18, 1980, he was the son of Edward M. Gsell and the late Denise (Borders) Gsell-Joyce. Ryan was a graduate of Salesianum and The Art Institute of Philadelphia. Following graduation, he worked various jobs. For the past ten years, Ryan worked for Simply Green Lawn Care as an operations manager, which was his favorite by far.
He was a tremendously loving husband and stepfather. Ryan always made sure that his wife and children came first. He was a fish by nature and absolutely loved jet skiing and being out in the ocean. Ryan enjoyed traveling with his family making special memories. Above all, he was a great man, a good friend, and a hero.
In addition to his mother, Ryan is preceded in death by his stepson, Logan Benedetto. He is survived by his loving wife, Deena Brown; stepchildren, Gabrielle and Nicholas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 7 pm on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 7 pm. Interment will be held privately.

LaRay, Samantha, Deena and surviving family, my heart is so sad over this loss. Ryan enjoyed life and will be missed by many! My brother Bob Joyce and SIL Denise were proud of Ryan and who he was becoming!

It was at least 5 years after meeting Gsell I realized he didn’t earn that nickname in jail (cell) and that it was his actual last name….. I once watched him get stabbed in the leg with a fork and take it gracefully! He was one of the most genuine people I’ve met along the way. No motives, no expectations kinda guy! Just wanted to be a positive person and bring happiness wherever he went. He will be missed for sure!!!
