Sanford A. “Sandy” Woodruff, Jr.

Sanford A. “Sandy” Woodruff, Jr., age 65, of Upper Chichester, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.
Born in Salisbury, North Carolina on August 25, 1952, he was the son of the late Sanford A. and Hazel (Spry) Woodruff, Sr. Sandy made his career as a school teacher at various schools, most recently at H.A. Brown Elementary School, retiring in June 2014.
He was quite the comedian, participating in many stand up shows at various locations. Sandy was very good with children, as well as children with special needs. He enjoyed showing them all types of magic tricks. Sandy adored all animals, especially his horses.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Marchione. Sandy is survived by his sister, Phyllis Winterberg of Vero Beach, FL; nephew, Troy and his wife Brenda of Claymont; nieces, Jill, Holly, Tracey, Rebecca, Taylor; great nephews, Erik, Sam, and Juanito; and a great nieces, Brenda, Shelly, Chandlee, Tammy, and Brandy.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday afternoon, August 4, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Church of the Atonement, 3519 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.

Sandy was an excellent teacher. He was loved by his students in his classes. Sandy taught in inner city schools in Philadelphia. He gave those inner city kids a love of learning and a love of life. Students from older classes would come back to visit with him.
Sandy was an excellent classroom manager . He had a talent with animals: dogs cats horses. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he could be a wonderful kind friend. He was a good husband and he loved his family.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sandy Woodruff. I worked with him at the Penrose School in Philadelphia. He was a great teacher and seemed genuinely concerned for his students.
I found out what a wonderful stand-up comedian he was when he entertained at one of our staff
gatherings. Marjorie, my sincere condolences are extended to you and your family.

Just heard about the passing of Sandy and I am truly saddened!!!! We taught together at Morton School for many years. We had rooms right next to each other and always opened our connecting doors to aid each other. He was always kind and loved to joke around. Prayers go out to his family.
