Sara J. (Redden) Spence, age 79, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Aston Mills, PA on February 21, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Anna Redden, Sr. Sara had been a waitress for most of her life, where she served as a manager for a Howard Johnson’s Restaurant for several years. She enjoyed bowling with the former Senior Swingers League, playing bingo and the slots, but most of all she adored spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Spence, who died in 2013; granddaughter, Michelle Miki Bettcher; 6 sisters; and 4 brothers. Sara is survived by her children, John W. Spence of Ringgold PA, Shirley A. Bettcher of Aston, PA, Jeanette (Ginger) Parkell-Bohn of New Castle, DE, and Jennifer A. Godlewski of Wilmington, DE; sister, June Pipino of Swathmore, PA; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 Noon on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will be held at 12 Noon. Interment will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery, 1000 W. Ridge Road, Linwood, PA.
