Mr. Scott Robert Bleakly, age 53, of Smyrna, DE, formerly of Newark, DE, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 15, 2011.
Scott was born in San Diego, CA, on February 9, 1958, and attended the University of Delaware. A machine operator by profession, he worked for Eagle Group / Metal Masters in Clayton, DE, for the past 4 years. Earlier, he had been employed as the manager of the parts department for R.E. Michel.
An avid outdoorsman, Scott delighted in biking, kayaking, and spending time in the mountains, where he enjoyed amateur astronomy. For the past 6 years, he participated in the annual Polar Bear Plunge Special Olympics charity event in Rehoboth Beach.
Scott was a lifelong Phillies fan and looked forward to cheering on his favorite team each season.
He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Michael Bleakly. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Theresa Ann Sama Bleakly; mother, Joan Marie Robinson Bleakly; brother, Douglas James Bleakly; sisters, Janine Robinson Bleakly and Janice Diego; and nieces and nephews, Amanda and Allison Bleakly, Alex and Andrew Diego, and Scott C. Bleakly. He is also survived by his beloved pet cats, Misty and Bela, whom he adored.
A funeral service will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 5 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Scott may be made to Special Olympics Delaware, c/o University of Delaware, 619 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716.
