Shirley A. Pittaoulis

Shirley A. Pittaoulis, age 86, of Hockessin, DE, formerly of Smyrna, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

Born in Wilmington, DE on July 25, 1936, she was the youngest daughter of the late Charles V. Elliott, Jr. and Mary E. Rose-Manelski.

Shirley worked as a dietary aide for a nursing home in Smyrna, DE, where she enjoyed visiting with the residents, and established life-long friendships with several of her coworkers.

Shirley had a passion and was gifted when it came to her crafts. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, but her talents really shined when it came to her plastic canvas.  Shirley enjoyed country line dancing, and pressing her luck on the slot machines at the casino. Shirley also enjoyed traveling, whether it was a day trip or an international flight, she was ready to go. One of her favorites was visiting Disney World. But above all else, spending time with her family was what Shirley cherished most.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Charles V.W. Hickman and sister, Elizabeth F. Elliott. She is survived by her children, James G. Hickman, Jr. (Dana), Markela S. “Kay” Damiano (Dom) and Lisa Pittaoulis (Randy); 5 grandchildren; 8 greatgrandchildren; and 2 great-greatgrandchildren.
