Shirley Samuels
July 9, 1950 - November 1, 2024
Shirley Samuels, age 74, of Middletown, Delaware, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 1, 2024.
Born on July 9, 1950, in Clairton, Pennsylvania, Shirley was the cherished daughter of the late George and Kizzy (Richardson) Samuels. She devoted 45 years of her life to serving others as a nurse at the Veterans Affairs Hospital, touching countless lives with her dedication, compassion, and professionalism.
In her free time, Shirley was drawn to the simple pleasures of life, whether enjoying a classic episode of “Gunsmoke”, exploring her creative side with decorating, or venturing to new places. But her greatest joy and source of pride was always her family. Shirley loved making memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each one a testament to the love and strength she poured into her family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Murray; as well as four sisters, Ruth Sinkler, Gertrude Brown-Milligan, Sarah Samuels, Pearline Irizarry; and one brother, Willie Samuel. She is survived by her three children, Monique Samuels, Cornell Samuels (Annemarie), and Larry Murray (Jawanda); her brother, David Mays of Queens, New York; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Each of them will forever hold her memory close, cherishing her warmth, her grace, and her unwavering love.
Shirley’s kindness, resilience, and spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 pm until 1 pm on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
