Harvey C. Smith, Jr.
Harvey C. Smith, Jr. began his career at Spicer-Mullikin in 1962 and was co-owner from 1987 until 2012. He is still active in the firm with his son Matthew, who is now the owner. Harvey was president of the Delaware State Funeral Directors’ Association and served on the Policy Board of the National Funeral Directors’ Association. He is a licensed funeral director in both Delaware and Maryland.
Harvey has been involved in many business, church and civic organizations. He served as president of the Delaware Better Business Bureau and was a member of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew in Wilmington, where he has held administrative positions. Harvey has served as a board member of the Salvation Army, Wilmington Rotary Club, Lincoln Club, and Boy Scouts of America.
He has been actively involved for many years as a volunteer for both the Odessa Fire Company and Wilmington Manor Fire Company, serving as deputy chief, president, board member and board chairman.
On a historic note, Harvey has traced his ancestry and found that his family came to this country in 1691, settling in Brandywine Hundred near the site of Smith’s Bridge – which was named after his family. Consequently, he is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
