SSG. Luke C. Yetter, age 27, of Clarksville, TN, formerly of Dover, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2018, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Born in Dover, DE on July 23, 1990, he was a son of James M. of New Castle and Rebecca A. (Cadmus) Yetter of Dover. Luke was a graduate of Polytech HS and Delaware Technical and Community College, where he earned a degree in electronics. Upon graduation, he joined the US Army. After training, Luke spent a year in Afghanistan before being stationed in Ft. Hood, TX. He was then accepted into the 160th Airborne at Ft. Campbell, KY, where he became FMQ. During his illness he became a member of Wounded Warriors Project team.

Luke was always an amazing son, brother, husband, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He worked hard, played hard and studied hard. He was compassionate and loving, liked traveling and never stopped learning new things. Luke enjoyed wood working, snow boarding, hiking and trying new beers from all over the world.

Luke was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles Mick Yetter; maternal grandfather, Paul C. Cadmus, Sr.; and 2 cousins, Levi T. Wall and Tom Cadmus, Jr. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Mary (Wessell)Yetter of Clarksville, TN; grandparents, Martha Yetter of New Castle, Donald and Patsy Caron of Smyrna; brothers, Matthew Anders of Dover and James Alex (Christine) Yetter of Smyrna; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews. He will be sorely missed by a great group of family,friends, and co-workers.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11:30 am on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11:30 am. Interment with military honors will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Luke’s honor to Ft. Campbell Fisher House, 652 Joel Drive, Ft. Campbell, KY 42223 or Wounded Warrior Project USSOCOM Care Coalition Bldg 6102, Rm 114, Ft. Campbell, KY 42223.

You still are one of the strongest men that I have ever known. Love you….

  • It has been an honor getting to know this fine young soldier since he returned to Delaware. Luke was so polite and respectful to everyone he met. Even with all he was going through, he always called me “Sir.” Luke endured his burdens with absolute class and dignity that I was privileged to witness. Although God is now lucky enough to enjoy Luke’s company, he will be sorely missed here. Until we meet again Luke, Hand Salute rendered Sir.

    We are so very sorry to hear about Luke. Luke was such a joy to know; and we are all fortunate for spending time with him. He was always helpful, considerate and funny. I will always cherish the memories of watching him at the mud run race, his wedding day and receiving special awards as a soldier.
    Luke now reaps the reward of God’s promise in heaven; and is surrounded by much love and angels.

  • Luke wa such an amazing person! Every time I visited him, he was always so polite and he never, ever complained. The last 6 months of his life were truly his happiest, as I witnessed the love between father and son. Fred cared for Luke in his home and every single day was filled with laughter and positivity.
