Stoney R. Bishop, Sr.

Mr. Stoney Richard Bishop, Sr., age 71, of Newark, DE, formerly of Tabernacle, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 14, 2012.
Born on December 18, 1940 in Kingsport, TN, Stoney was the son of the late Floyd H. Bishop and Zella Bledsoe Bishop. He was a proud graduate of Newark High School and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. Stoney spent his career working as a food and beverage manager for Pathmark and the Sunrise Inn in New Jersey.
In his leisure hours, Stoney enjoyed watching old westerns and listening to music or reading and working at his computers all at the same time (of course). He was active with the Senior Olympics, winning many medals in billiards. He and his wife, Mary Lou, spent many hours playing billiards, as well as their favorite board game, Numble. He also collected NASCAR memorabilia and proudly wore the color orange to support the University of Tennessee football team.
Stoney had numerous bird feeders and enjoyed watching the birds’ many antics while swinging on his swing. His six grandchildren could always put a smile on his face whenever they were around.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Mary Lou Abrams Bishop; his children, Barbara Cozens, Stoney Bishop, Jr. (Jeanine), and David Bishop (Lori); and his grandchildren, Amanda, Ryan, Michael, Alyssa, Kaitlyn, and Stoney.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 11 am.
