Thomas I. Hoback, age 66, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2021.

Born in Pulaski, VA on October 26, 1954, he was the son of Jean (Hall) Ramando and the late William E. Hoback. Thomas was a tireless worker, making his career at Blue Hen Mechanic, where he serviced and installed equipment and systems as a HVAC-R technician. He enjoyed cheering on his favorite Philadelphia sports teams in his spare time. More than anything, Thomas loved spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his father, Thomas was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Herbert Simpson. He is survived by his mother, Jean Ramando of Newark; children, Stephanie Hoback of New Castle and Dwayne Hoback of Dagsboro; grandchildren, Thomas Tyler Hoback, Brendon Hoback, Faith Hoback and Sereana Reed; sisters, Debra Simpson and Celina Douty (Chuck); godson and nephew, Chad Douty; and nephew, Ben Douty.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, June 21, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thomas’s memory to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.

  • I am so very sad to hear about Tom, he was always very nice to me when he came in Mcavannys, just recently we became friends on facebook, i was so glad to see him , now i’m sad. Rest in peace Tom

  • Tom and I were friends since 1977. He was my mentor in HVAC, I worked with him at Justice Brothers, I lived with him and the Johnson brothers and Larry Fetzer in Newport. We fished together, we fed the fish in his pond behind his house, we hung out with Herb, his bro-in-law. They were some of the best times of my life. We stayed friends through thick and thin all these years. He was my dear, dear friend and I will miss him till the day I die. My sincere condolences to Dwayne, Stephanie and Dawn. We had so many good times together, me and my family grew up with you and yours. I love you guys. God Bless you all. Rest In Peace my friend. I’ll miss you.
