Mr. Thomas J. Walsh, Jr., age 68, of Smyrna, DE, formerly of New Castle, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Walsh was born in Wilmington on July 27, 1943, son of the late Thomas J. Walsh, Sr. and Mildred Sullivan Walsh. He was a longtime member of our nation’s armed forces, proudly serving for many years in the US Army, the Army Reserve, and the National Guard. In civilian life, he enjoyed a varied and interesting career, working as an exterminator, a licensed locksmith, a private security guard, and a barber before his retirement.
A dedicated volunteer in the fire service community throughout his life, Mr. Walsh was a Life Member of the Wilmington Manor Fire Company and a member of the Citizens’ Hose Company in Smyrna and the Delaware State Fire Police. He was also active in the Masonic order and served as Past Master of Jackson Lodge #15 AF&AM in Delaware City.
In his leisure hours, Mr. Walsh greatly enjoyed trips to the beach, especially to the Cape Henlopen and Lewes areas, and going fishing.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Roberta J. Baldwin Walsh; stepson, Matthew L. Arnold (fiancée, Tiny Griffith) of Clayton; sister, Diane Brown of Wilmington; sisters-in-law, Ginny Shoemaker (Keith) of Townsend, and Ruth Springer (Jack) of New Castle; granddaughter, Ashlee Dawn Arnold; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, May 3rd, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, and again after 10:45 am on Friday, May 4th, at the funeral home. A Masonic service will begin at 11:45 am, followed by a funeral service at 12 noon. Entombment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington, DE.
