Mr. Tommy Wayne Bartley, Sr., age 62, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 18, 2013.
Born in Dearborn, MI, on July 11, 1950, Tommy was the son of the late Odes Bartley and Dora Simpson Bartley. He was a 1968 graduate of Newark High School and would marry his high school sweetheart, Barbara E. Wilson, on July 13, 1968.
Tommy loved going to Delaware Park to wager on Thoroughbred horse racing. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing cards with his family and friends. He was an avid San Francisco Giants fan, as well. He made his career as a retail/sales manager for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Susie Crusan, father-in-law, Harold “Butch” Wilson, and nephews, William R. Shire III and Justin M. Bartley. He is survived by Barbara, his beloved wife of 44 years; children, Stacie Hamm (Danny), Wendy Verlander (André), Tommy W. Bartley II and Kevin Bartley, all of Newark; grandchildren, Amanda and Matthew Hamm, Jeremy Starrett, Michael Verlander, Andrew Webster, Tommy W. Bartley III, and Adrianna Bartley; sister, Jennifer Sexton of Bear; brothers, Jerry Bartley (Robyn) of Manteca, CA, and Michael Bartley of Claymont; mother-in-law, Emily Wilson of Lewes; sister-in-law, Sandi Hernandez (Dwight) of St. Cloud, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will be held privately.
