Violet M.S. Harris

Violet M.S. Harris, age 66, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Christiana Hospital with her husband Don by her side.
Violet was born on July 17, 1946 in Wilmington, daughter of the late Betty E. Hook Stoops and Harold E. Stoops. After graduating from John Dickinson High School, she earned her degree in accounting and law from Goldey-Beacom College. She would go on to work for many years as chief accountant for Frank Robino Builders.
On April 23, 1966, Violet married her high school sweetheart, Donald W. Harris. Together, along with her mother Betty, they opened the William Penn Specialty Shop in New Castle. After Betty’s retirement, Violet and Don opened the Purr-fect Gift in Glasgow. She owned and operated gift stores for 30 years.
Violet was well known for her kindness and generosity. She loved gardening, antiquing, and animals, especially her beloved pets, Muffey, Bailey, Bru, Mia, and Sweetie. She will be dearly missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, June 18th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 1 pm.
