January 19, 1930 - January 16, 2018

Virginia M. Ely, age 87, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2018.

Born in Martinsburg, West Virginia on January 19, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mae Alkire.  Virginia worked as a lab technician with Atlas Point Pharmaceutical Manufacturing in New Castle before raising her family.

A longtime member of the Newark Senior center, she loved going on organized trips.  Virginia also enjoyed going to garage sales, cooking and reading.   Above all, she was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Q. Jack Ely.  She is survived by her children, Melissa A. Noble (Bob) of New Castle, Pamela L. Cannatelli of Newark and Jennifer L. Ely (Terry Greer) of Newark; grandchildren, Shawn, Justin and Dana; and great grandson, Finn.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 10 am until 11 am at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE.  Followed by a funeral service at 11 am.  Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A St, Wilmington, DE 19801.
