Mr. Virginius D. Bolton, known fondly as “Bill,” age 81, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, from complications of congestive heart failure.
Born in Baltimore, MD, on September 22, 1930, son of the late Andrew L. Bolton and Marion Dunnington Bolton, Bill proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After earning his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware, he accepted a position with the DuPont Company, where he worked for 39 years until his retirement.
Bill was a devout Christian throughout his life and a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Newark. Among his many hobbies, he was an avid UD football fan and a keen, knowledgeable model train collector. He also enjoyed boating and spending time at Little Bay Lodge in Annapolis, MD.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Joanne Bane Bolton; children, Marion B. Woodruff, Andrea B. Franks (Rick), and Virginius R. “Bob” Bolton (Marigrace); seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, September 21, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 12 noon. Entombment will be held privately at Silverbrook Cemetery in Wilmington.
