Walter V. Charowsky

April 21, 1941 - June 15, 2023

Walter V. Charowsky, age 82, of Newark, DE, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023, with his children by his side.

Born at home in Forestville, PA on April 21, 1941, he was a son of the late Vladimirus “Walter” and Anna (Bobrick) Charowsky. Walter learned his trade at Baldwins Locomotive Works in Eddystone, PA. After the company closed, he was offered an apprenticeship at Chrysler Corporation in Newark, DE where he spent 37 years as a millwright. He retired from Chrysler in 2006.

After retirement Walter could be found socializing in the mornings at the Local UAW 1183 and passing out provision to the local community. He was active in Holy Family Church and the Knights of Columbus. Cars were his passion and he enjoyed attending the Hagley Museum Car Shows with his children and grandkids. The Eagles and the Phillies were his favorite sports teams.

Walter was a devoted, loving family man and caregiver to his beloved wife, Carole Ann Charowsky, who preceded him in death on November 11, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his grandchildren, Walter Alexander “Alex” Charowsky and Axl Anthony Charowsky; sister, Virginia Hoover; brother-in-law, Paul Caulfield; and sister-in-law, Nancy “Dolly” Charowsky.

He is survived by his children, Walter A. Charowsky (Ali) and Annette J. Gore (Tom); four grandchildren, Aric Joseph Charowsky (Katya), Julie Ann Gore, Katelyn Gail Brixen (Eric), and Tanner Kauffman Gore; great-grandchildren, Atticus Axl Gore, Soren James Brixen, and Freya Annette Brixen; sisters, Cecilia Caulfield and Patricia Schrockman (Jack); brothers, Myron Charowsky and Charles Charowsky (Dana); and many nieces, nephews, cousins.

Walter’s children would like to thank Bayada Home Health Care & Bayada Hospice for their compassionate care they provided during his sickness.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter’s memory to Holy Family R.C. Church or the Knights of Columbus, Council #4548. Both can be mailed to the address above for Holy Family R.C. Church.

  • My sympathy for your loss. Walter was my classmate and friend for 12 years: from first grade at St Nicholas through graduation from Cass Townsjp High School. He was always friendly, pleasant and a good man. I am sincerely sorry that he has gone, but he surely is in heaven.

    I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. I remember him vaguely from so many years ago. I recall him as a kind and gentle person. I recently started exploring family history and am creating a family tree. I added your Dad “Uncle Wally” and wondered how he was doing. My internet search revealed this unfortunate discovery.

    He was clearly much loved. I wish you and your families peace and joy as you celebrate his life.
