William “Bill” Hickey
William “Bill” Hickey, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 7, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born in 1944 in Chester, PA, he was a son of the late Thomas J. and Ethel (Armstrong) Hickey, Jr. Bill grew up in Parkside and Upland, PA. He graduated from St. James Catholic High School in 1962 and Goldey-Beacom College in 1963. Bill made his career as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2000 after 34 years of service. He married the love of his life and soul mate, Sandra in 1965. They had 30 happy years together before Sandra’s death in 1995.
Bill loved to spend time with his family and friends and vacation in Williamsburg, VA. He was a longtime, devoted member of the New Castle County Irish Society. Bill served as a director on their board before becoming their vice president in 2023. Over the years, he edited their newsletter, the Leprechaun, maintained their website, and was the membership chairman. Bill enjoyed helping organize the bake sale in Annie’s Tea House at the club’s annual fest, and was a member of the kitchen crew. He was always happy to volunteer wherever they needed an extra hand around the Irish Center.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra E. (Roberts) Hickey; and brother, Thomas III. He is survived by his son, Brian J. Hickey (Audrey); daughter, Noreen Hickey-Spangler (Sam); grandchildren, Amber Salinski (Brian), Alyssa Daly (John), Charlie Collas, Anthony Collas, Weston Hickey, and Phoenix Hickey; great-grandsons, Michael Maier Jr., Bryce Salinski, and Cooper Collas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
