William F. “Tim” Springer, Sr.

Mr. William F. Springer, Sr., age 80, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011, at his home.

A native Delawarean, Mr. Springer was born in Wilmington on September 11, 1930, son of the late Jack Springer and Grace Marden Springer. He was a machinist by profession and had been employed with the former Electric Hose and Rubber Company, Delaware Steel, Lincoln Steel, and the DuHadaway Tool and Die Shop.

A gifted craftsman and handyman, Mr. Springer was very proud to have designed and built his own home. He was a talented gardener as well; his perfect vegetables and beautiful flowers were the envy of the neighborhood.

Most of all, Mr. Springer was a devoted family man who delighted throughout his life in spending time with his beloved wife, children, and siblings. He especially looked forward to family weekend vacations at his former beach home in Lewes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Gertrude R. Sapp Springer, whom he cared for tenderly during her illness, and by his sister, Nancy McBride. He is survived by his children, William F. Springer, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Wilmington, Gertrude V. Tootie Springer of Lewes, and Sandra S. Snowberger of Lewes; brothers, Jack Springer (Ruth) of New Castle, and Jerry Springer (Helen) of Lewes; lifelong best friend, Mary Cheeseman; and pet cat, Nicky.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Norma and the entire Morales family, Doris and Mac, Nancy and James Sapp, Peggy Lynn, and Leroy Davis for their loving care and support over the past several years.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, August 19, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
