William J. McBride, age 79, of Newark, DE, passed away at his residence on Monday, April 30, 2018.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on September 18, 1938, he was a son of the late Richard F. and Kathryn E. (King) McBride. William proudly served in the U.S. Marines from 1955 “ 1959. Following his service he dedicated his career as a chemical operator with Allied Chemical, retiring after 35 years.
William loved spending time with his family and family gatherings. He enjoyed fishing in his leisure time. He was always dedicated to his career and was a workaholic. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving father, brother and dear friend to many.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Swope, Mary McBride, Helen Roberts and Margaret Barker; and brother, Richard McBride. He is survived by his children, William J. McBride, Jr. (Diane) of Bear, DE, John D. McBride (Leslie) of Millsboro, DE and Christine M. Groff (Tom) of Clayton, DE; companion, Zelda Thomas of Newark and her son, Jay (Sarah); six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William’s name to the American Lung Association of Delaware, 1021 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE, 19806.
