William Malcolm Baust “Bill”

William Malcolm Baust, age 70, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2013.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on June 13, 1943, Bill was a son of the late John Baust and Lillian Helen Imhof Baust. He attended Cheltenham High School in Pennsylvania, where he excelled as a student athlete. Bill starred on the football, wrestling, and track teams and was a stand-out pole vaulter. He served his community as a volunteer fire fighter with the Cheltenham Fire Company. Bill honorably served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War on extended submarine duty aboard the USS Skipjack with his brother, Jack. Bill was employed as a field engineer with NCR, where he serviced and repaired banking equipment, and retired after 40 years.
Well-known for his friendly and outgoing personality, he was an exceptionally generous and social individual who went out of his way to help others. He had a strong work ethic and believed in providing for and protecting his family. He also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Paula Baust, who passed away in 1995. Bill is survived by his children, Jennifer Baust of Newark, DE, Marlene Baust of New Castle, DE, and Derek Baust of New Castle, DE; and brothers, John Jack Baust of Frisco, NC and George Baust of Lehigh Acres, FL.
A graveside service will begin promptly at 2pm on, Friday, January 3, 2014 at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, Delaware. Interment will follow. A reception will be held at 3pm at Bertucci’s Restaurant, 201 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19702. The restaurant is located off of Route 273 by Boscov’s.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests Bill be honored simply by carrying forward his practice and belief of kind gestures towards others.

Jesus’ teaching gives us great comfort and hope for the future. For example, what did he do in the case of Lazarus? He went to the tomb where Lazarus’ body had been lying for four days. He uttered a prayer, “and when he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice: ‘Lazarus, come on out!’ The man that had been dead came out—- Can you imagine the looks of surprise and joy on the faces of Martha and Mary? How the neighbors must have been astonished when they saw this miracle! Jesus performed that unforgettable resurrection in front of many eyewitnesses. It was a token of the future resurrection. I can think of so many different memories of your family over the years. From the little girl who wanted to play, to the teenager who was the bad influence at times and the young woman starting in the world and a family of her own.
One of the biggest memories I have is always saying “Hi Mr Baust” real loud with a huge smile just knowing it plucked his nerves as a teenager. To the night he boogied away at my wedding having a blast with all of our loved ones! Then when I had a family of my own, he seemed to grow softer and really expressed interest by always asking how we were all doing which I thought was so sweet.
I miss hearing his stories (and there were many) for those who knew him well and stopping by during my walks with my dogs for a quick chat and so he could pet them.
