Marie M. Evans - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Marie M. Evans

November 25, 1928 - May 3, 2023

Marie M. Evans, age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.

Born in Dagsboro, DE, on November 25, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Roy E. and Bessie M. (Calhoun) Melson. Marie was a graduate of Lord Baltimore High School in Ocean View, DE in 1946 and Beacom College, in 1948. After college, Marie worked as a secretary at the former West Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, but then dedicated her life to her family as a talented homemaker.  She and her husband, Allen, were married for 60 years before his passing in 2009.

Deep in her faith, Marie was a devoted and long-time member of White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church. In her spare time, she could often be found knitting or cheering on her beloved Philadelphia Phillies. Above all, Marie cherished time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and always had a great concern for others.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Allen Evans; brother, Howard E. Melson; grandson, Chris Bonk; and great-grandson, Tyler Warren. She is survived by her children, Diane M. Palmer and Barbara J. Bonk (Gene); grandchildren, Sandra, Lori, Rebecca, Dustin (Gessi), Alexa, and Zach; and great-grandchildren, Will, Michael, Evan and Roland.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. A second visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the funeral home, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s memory to White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 15 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE 19711 or online by clicking here.

The family would also like to thanks Christiana Care/Seasons Hospice and Griswold Home Care for the wonderful care they provided in the last 2 years.

4 Condolences for Marie M. Evans

  • You have my deepest sympathy for Aunt Marie’s passing. I know she lived a good long life and will be deeply missed. My main regret is that I didn’t get up to visit since Covid. Aunt Marie was my favorite aunt and I will truly miss her.

  • So sorry for your loss. Prayers for your family at this difficult time. Lori, Michael, and Evan prayers and hugs coming your way.

  • Marie was a great role model for so many.
    Sue

  • Marie had just achieved 50 years of membership (now termed partnership) at White Clay Creek Church, having joined in April 1973. Although also a long-time WCCPC partner, unfortunately, I did not get to know Marie or Allen well but certainly remember them. Wish I had known of her devotion to the Phillies when she was still able to attend, as that would certainly have been a talking point as I, too, am an avid Phillies’ fan, with yearbooks 1959-2022 to prove it.
My condolences and the Lord’s blessings and peace to Marie’s entire family.
