A Farewell as Boundless as Their Spirit
At Spicer-Mullikin, we understand that for many, the traditional cemetery is not the final destination. For those who found their peace by the water or their freedom in the sky, we are honored to introduce our new Aerial Cremains Scattering service. In exclusive partnership with Cremation Air, a firm located in our region, we provide a dignified “final flight”—a moment of release where ashes are scattered over the open ocean or coastline, connecting your loved one eternally with the earth and sky. Now available to families in New Castle, Newark, Delaware City, and Middletown, this meaningful return to nature is handled with the same professionalism and care you expect from Spicer-Mullikin, whether you are pre-planning your own arrangements or navigating an immediate loss today.
How the Aerial Scattering Process Works
We handle all logistics to ensure the process is simple, transparent, and compliant with all regulations.
1. Choose Your Location
You may select a scattering location from a wide range of US coastal waters and the Great Lakes. Popular choices for our families include:
- The Atlantic Ocean – coastal (three nautical miles) or deep water
- Gulf Waters
- The Great Lakes
2. Secure “Chain of Custody”
We utilize the “C-AIR” system, which stands for Clarity, Assurance, Integrity, and Respect. From the moment you entrust your loved one to us, a unique barcode tracks the urn throughout the entire journey. We confirm the secure arrival at the air facility and notify you when the flight is scheduled.
3. The Final Tribute
A professional flight with a specially trained Cremation Air crew will be scheduled to scatter the ashes within 30 days of receipt. You will receive a “Boarding Notification” when the flight begins and a “Destination Notification” just before the scattering takes place, allowing you to pause and reflect during the event. Cremation Air’s aircraft are specially equipped to ensure a dignified and secure service.
What You Receive: Proof of a Dignified Farewell
One of the biggest concerns families have with scattering is the lack of a permanent record. Our service solves this by providing verifiable keepsakes:
- Official Scattering Certificate: You will receive a formal certificate documenting the exact date, time, and GPS coordinates of the scattering.
- Tribute Video: To ensure you feel part of the journey, we provide a video capturing the precise moment of release over the water.
- EPA Compliance: We handle the mandatory reporting to the EPA within 30 days, ensuring full legal compliance, so you don’t have to worry about paperwork.
