Richard Arthur “Rick” Scott

February 13, 1958 - September 2, 2025

Richard Arthur “Rick” Scott, age 67, of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Born in Wilmington, DE on February 13, 1958, he was a son of the late John A. and Mary (Russo) Scott, Sr. Rick graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington, DE, in 1976. He continued his education at the University of Delaware, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Rick had a long and successful career as a field service medical imaging engineer before retiring.

Ricked loved cars, especially his prized 1970 Mustang Fastback. He also enjoyed building radio-controlled airplanes. Several years ago, Rick became very active with the pickleball group at Bible Fellowship Church of Newark, where he gained new friends and found spiritual comfort. He also liked to be a part of his community and volunteered with the Adopt a Family organization, the Delaware R/C club and his daughters’ Girl Scout troop.

Rick was proud of his Italian and Scottish heritage, and would often celebrate that by cooking his mother’s recipes and sharing them with his grandchildren. Rick and Melissa took a trip of a lifetime to Scotland back in 2019. Most recently, in June 2025, they visited Yellowstone National Park, which was something they had always wanted to do. Above anything else, Rick was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Mary (Russo) Scott, Sr. and his son-in-law, Mark Strickland (USMC). He is survived by his cherished wife of 44 years, Melissa Scott; he will be dearly missed by his daughters, Andrea Scott (James Whitehouse) and Jacqueline Custodio (Michael); grandchildren; Lake Evans, Jaxson and Aiden Whitehouse, Lilita Custodio and by love, Collin Oliver and Ayannah Darring-Short; brothers, John (Julie), Danny, and Tom (Lisa); sisters-in-law, Melinda Robino (Steve) and Dara Bodofsky (Scott); brother-in-law, Kent Eagle (Lori); and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rick’s memory to the Bible Fellowship Church of Newark, 808 Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702 or online by clicking here or to a charity of your choice.
