George W. Eaton, Jr.

April 25, 1951 - November 19, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of George W. Eaton, Jr., age 72, of Bear, DE, on Sunday, November 19, 2023.

Born in Donaldsonville, LA on April 25, 1951, he was a son of the late George W. and Alice (Schexnayder) Eaton. George was a graduate of Christiana High School, class of 1969, where he was a member of the Usher’s Club. He began his career as an automobile mechanic at Rockhill Pontiac. George later became a diesel mechanic and eventually acquired his CDL. He dedicated the last 40 years of his life to Eastern Mail Transport.

In his early years, George was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and enjoyed many years of bowling, sprint car racing, and tractor pulls. He loved traveling and every adventure became a misadventure. George particularly enjoyed frequent trips to Disney World over the last 35 years with his family. His favorite vacation destination was Hawaii. George and Barbara celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to San Diego, CA this past June. He also enjoyed visiting Louisiana as he was proud of his heritage.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his son, Stephen A. Eaton. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Seward) Eaton; cherished daughter, Kristen Grabowski and son-in-law, Evan whom he loved like his own; devoted son, George Eaton III; grandchildren, Sadie Funderburg (Justin), Stephen Eaton, and Marissa Eaton; the ever present, Karoline Grabowski, and Evan Grabowski; great-grandchild, Lily Funderburg; siblings, Dennis Eaton (Faye), Beverly Atkins (David), and Mary Alice Rehal; and his best friend since high school, Craig Rotenberry.

The Eaton family would like to extend a special thank you to Frances Palermo, MD and Colleen Allen, NP, for their care and compassion.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 11 am on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
