Saundra “Sandy” Eileen Davis Cundey
May 7, 1940 - February 24, 2026
Saundra “Sandy” Eileen Davis Cundey, age 85, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, while under hospice care.
Born on May 7, 1940, Sandy loved her family. From a very young age, she took on the role of caregiver for her younger brothers, her own children, and eventually caring for her mother.
She especially cherished holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, when everyone gathered together. Those occasions brought her great joy and created lasting memories. Sandy took pride in her home and found satisfaction in keeping it neat and well cared for. She loved plants and gardening, as well as playing cards, sewing, quilting and knitting. She enjoyed reading and found comfort in a good book.
In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Ball (2025); and brother, Robert “Dallas” Scher (2019). She is survived by her husband, John “Jack” Cundey of Newark; children: Ken Hickey (Jennifer), Lisa Cerutti, Linda Sambursky (Ronald), and Scott Hickey (Melissa Soulias); son-in-law, Jerry Ball; grandchildren: Hannah, Blake, Sarah, Michael, Matthew, Melissa, Rachel, Geoffrey, Alyssa, and Madison; great-grandchildren: Mariella, John, and Elliana; and brothers, Earle Davis and Roland Davis.
Her life will be remembered through the traditions she valued, the family she loved, and the generations who carry her memory forward.
A private family celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at a later date to honor and remember her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandy’s memory to Faithful Friends Animal Society, 165 Airport Road, New Castle, DE 19720 or online by clicking here.

Sister Sandy, was very frustrated, irritatable, with her family during her illness.
But her friend Dori, saw thru all that. She loved family, and friends. We will all celebrate the twinkle in her eye and warm hugs she dispensed
continously if you were around her..
Love you Sis,
Little big brother Ron and Earle

Sandy was one of my dearest friends. My sissy in heart. We were always there for each other through good times and bad. As she took her last breath I held her hand and prayed over her the last word she said was My name. I knew her daughter Debbie and two sister.in-laws were calling her to join them in heaven. May she rest in peace. Amen
