James D. Stewart (Jim)

May 7, 1942 - March 18, 2026

James D. Stewart, (Jim) age 83, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

Born in Marshallton, DE on May 7, 1942, he was a son of the late Edward D. and Anna H. (Blunt) Stewart. James proudly served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He made his career as an elite carpenter and owner of Kitchens Plus, Inc. in Middletown.

Deep in his faith, Jim was an active member of St. Georges United Methodist Church. He found joyful peace by spending his free time fishing and traveling with his wife, Jane and whomever else could join them. As a couple, Jim and Jane were known for their love of music, the jitterbug and watching their favorite baseball team, the Philadelphia ‘Sillies.’ A car enthusiast, driving his award winning 1958 Chevy always put a smile on his face.  Jim will always be remembered as a hard worker who devoted his life to provide a happy home for his family. The farmhouse and land he restored was considered a safe landing place for friends and family as all were welcome. His energetic disposition will always be remembered and will never be matched.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, E. Jane (Hensley) Stewart; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters. He is survived by his children, Robert B. Stewart (Paige) of Middletown, Donna L. Perry (James) of Smyrna, and Sharon L. Long (Richard) of Wilmington; sister, Carol L. Riggs of Elkton, MD; life-long friend Eddie Allen of Townsend, DE: 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
