Laurene Sinady Green
January 12, 1938 - March 30, 2026
Laurene Sinady Green, age 88, of Middletown, Delaware, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026. Born in Port-a-Piment, Haiti on January 12, 1938, to Estivéne and Fanelie (Charles) Sinady, Laurene built a life defined by resilience, determination, and a deep love for her family and community.
While she was from Haiti, Laurene spent much of her teens and young adult life in Canada where she “raised” herself in a country and culture quite different from her Haitian roots. But where others would just be intent on surviving, Laurene thrived, determined to create her best self, and the conclusion of her undergraduate nursing school education from Laval University in Quebec was just the beginning of her life’s journey.
After completing her college studies, Laurene moved to the United States, where she would plant a flag in her second homeland. It was there she met her beloved husband, Marcellus Green, with whom she raised three sons, and made a career as a registered nurse in New Jersey for over 40 years. Even while adapting to yet another culture, she built a rich life centered on family, learning, and service.
Laurene was an avid patron of arts and culture, and she especially appreciated live stage and dance performances. Deeply community-minded, Laurene also donated her time and money to many artistic, cultural, and philanthropic organizations, some of her favorites (in no particular order) include: LeSEA Global “Feed The Hungry,” The Barack Obama Foundation, Shriners Children, the Entertainment Community Fund, the ASPCA, National Parks Conservation Association, World Wildlife Fund, and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
In lieu of sending flowers or gifts, if you would like to honor Laurene’s memory, a donation to any of these organizations in her name would be greatly appreciated.
Her legacy of strength and grace lives on in her family, especially in her young grandson, Loukian, whose growing spirit and determination continually remind us of his grandmother’s iron will.
In addition to her parents, Laurene was preceded in death by her husband, Marcellus Green. She is survived by her children, Gilbert S. Green, Lawrence A. Green, and Marcel A. Green; and grandson, Loukian Lee Green.

Certainly a woman who raised 3 exceptional men like Gil, Larry and Marcel should be celebrated and not mourned. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. I wish the family of Ms. Green much ❤️ and 🙏🏾 at this time.

I never had the opportunity to meet Laurene, but worked very closely with one of her son’s, Larry, for many, many years. A wonderful son brought up by a wonderful mom who I only know by the great stories shared. My condolences to all those impacted by this loss.
