James Gregory “Jim” Bowe
April 13, 1936 - May 3, 2026
In loving memory of James Gregory “Jim” Bowe, Middletown, Delaware, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
He was born on April 13,1936 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Fabian Thomas Bowe and Kathleen Mary Corrigan Bowe. Jim grew up in Wilmington and after graduating from Salesianum School, he attended Pennsylvania Military College (PMC) now known as Widener University, Chester, PA., graduating with a B.S. in Engineering. He worked for various corporations over the years in the aerospace industry, beginning in 1957 with Thiokol Chemical Corporation, Elkton, Maryland, and retiring in 2000 with Atlantic Research Corporation, Gainesville, Virginia.
He was an avid photographer, enjoyed traveling, tinkering with his Porsche, making and fixing things in his garage, playing guitar, and reading the history of the Civil War. Jim loved researching his family history beginning with his great-great-grandfather, William Bowe, of Wilmington, Delaware, who established the Gregg & Bowe Coach Works in 1885, which later became the Bowe Carriage Company. William was born in Ireland and came to America at the age of 10 with his parents. Jim was a story teller and loved his time with the grandkids, passing on his family history and wisdom. He was so proud of all of his grandchildren. Jim loved family gatherings, singing and playing guitar with family and friends. His laugh and jokes will be dearly missed.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet; four sons, James P. (Darlene), Michael (Ann), Matthew (Anne) and Robert (Karen); Kevin O’Connell (Jeanne) who he loved like a son; twelve grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was an uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews who he enjoyed spending time with.
Services will be held privately.

We enjoyed Jim so much over the years. In the social world and the business world Jim was the same; bright, energetic, caring and resourceful. To say we loved him and will miss him terribly is the understatement of the century.
