Michelle Y. “Shell” LaFon Howett, age 63, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on November 10, 1962, she was a daughter of the late Aaron L. and Joyce Ann (Goodman) LaFon. Shell was a spirited graduate of William Penn High School with the class of 1980. She dedicated her life to caring for her family as a homemaker.

Shell had a passion for caring for all types of animals. In her spare time, she was an avid iPad gamer and music enthusiast, a passion that was passed down by her Daddy. Shell loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them, especially those from the beautiful mountains of West Virginia and the peaceful shores of Virginia Beach.

Shell is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Norman L. “Butch” Howett III; children, Aaron D. Curtis (Kristy), Elizabeth J. Weale Howett, Kimberly A. Lopez (Myron), and Stacey L. Witcher (Bryan); siblings, LeeAnn Cappiello (John) and Russell LaFon (Julie); grandchildren, Dalton, Fermin, Brittnie, and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews. Shell was also survived by her best friend of over 40 years, Tracy Lewis.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11 am on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
