Susan M. Buzalek

September 30, 1951 - June 11, 2026

Susan M. Buzalek, age 74, of Landenberg, PA, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

Born in Portsmouth, VA, on September 30, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Earl Eugene and Irene Powers LeDoyen.

Susan was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Lee Buzalek; her sons, Kyle and Andrew; her sisters, Patricia Comley and her husband, Stephen, Cecilia LeDoyen, and Magdalen Whitecross of Ocean View, Queensland, Australia; her brother, Stephen LeDoyen; and her nephews, Nathan and Mathew Turner and Eric and Douglas Comley.

Susan graduated from Thomas McKean High School in 1969 and James Madison University in 1973. Following college, she traveled to Australia to begin her teaching career. It was there that she met the love of her life, Lee Buzalek. They were married in Adelaide, Australia, on February 22, 1977, and later moved back to the United States to build their life together.

Susan adored her two sons, Kyle and Andrew, and had a lifelong love for her many dogs. She held a special place in her heart for Gracie, a chocolate Labrador Retriever, and Samantha, an Old English Sheepdog.

Susan taught at the Delaware Division for the Visually Impaired, where she helped teach life and adaptive skills. After her children arrived, she devoted herself to her family. Later, she and Lee created “Matilda’s,” an Australian-themed restaurant. Several years later, they sold the restaurant and continued their work together renovating homes and managing properties. Susan had a remarkable eye for design, along with the determination, integrity, and high standards that helped make her successful in property management. Together, Susan and Lee created, owned, and managed Quail Ridge Property Management.

Susan loved to relax with a great book and could often read two or three books in a week. She enjoyed sharing her latest favorite authors and stories with her family. She was also a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and especially loved the Philadelphia Eagles. Susan loved the beach and took great joy in surf fishing.

A perfectionist by nature, Susan took pride in everything she did. Whether she was creating curtains or window treatments, painting a room, renovating a home, restoring furniture, or preparing a meal, she always delivered quality, beauty, and care.

Susan was also known for her love of entertaining and her gift for bringing family and friends together around a table filled with wonderful food that she and Lee prepared. She was caring, generous, and never too busy to help others. No matter how tired she was, Susan would always make time for family, friends, and even strangers in need.

Her talents, kindness, strength, and love for people were endless. Susan will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten by all whose lives she touched.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE.
