Melvin Mosley - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Melvin Mosley

Melvin Mosley, a loving husband and hard worker, was born in the summer of 1952 and passed away in the summer of 2026. He was born in Delaware to Andrew and Jane (Colbert) Mosley. He attended Christiana High School and graduated in 1970. He played football during his time in school as a defensive end and tight end and was nicknamed “Killer” by the school for his merit and sportsmanship. After high school, he served in the United States Armed Forces as radio, signal, and microwave specialist during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany. He earned a Sharpshooter medal and a Good Conduct Award during his time in the Armed Forces. After returning from Germany, he went to Delcastle to learn electrical work and graduated in 1993, earning a Journeyman’s Card for his hard work. He worked at General Motors in the paint department as an electrician for over 30 years.

Melvin enjoyed many things, including drag racing, fishing, cooking, gardening, and his 1967 Chevelle SS 396 in butternut yellow. He made it his job to make breakfast and dinner every single day to ensure his family was well fed and taken care of, often using ingredients from his very own garden outside his home, which he took great pride in. He would often be found watching drag racing, NASCAR, or football on Thursday and Sunday nights, or while preparing meals, listening to funk, jazz, or R&B music, and singing in the kitchen. He grew up in the Pilgrims Baptist Church, and he was a trustworthy man who cared deeply about integrity and honor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Mosley and Jane Colbert Mosley; his sister, Evelyn; and his brothers, Alan, Andrew “Sonny”, and Charlie “Chaz”. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Diana Mosley; his daughter, Melody Mosley; his granddaughters, Angelina (Tyler), Keira, and Shealyn; his sisters, Josephine Kelly and Mary Jane Perkins; and a host of extended family and friends.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Daisy, Perdessa, and Shane from the hospice team, who helped Melvin and his family through his health troubles. Additionally, a loving thanks to Tyler, who spent time helping around the house when the family was unable to do so, and spent time speaking with Melvin about the topics he enjoyed, especially cars and racing. Also, thank you to Mikey and Little Mikey for helping around the house. And lastly, a warm thanks to the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home for taking such care in his funeral arrangements and allowing the family to say their goodbyes.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 11:30 am on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11:30 am. A committal service will follow in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
