John B. Hainsworth III - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

John B. Hainsworth III

November 1, 1959 - August 5, 2026

John B. Hainsworth III, age 66, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on November 1, 1959, he was a son of John B. Hainsworth, Jr. and Gertrude “Trudy” (Valente) Welch. John made his career as a machinist supervisor at Du Hadaway Tool & Die for 48 years.

John loved his family, whether it was attending his kids or grandkids events, or enjoying a day floating in the pool. He was an avid sports fan, even if his Phillies or Cowboys let him down more times than not, he loved watching them (and yelling at them through the TV)! John’s ideal summer day was napping on the beach, then enjoying a nice stroll on the boardwalk at night. He was Mr. Fix-It, if something could be fixed, he would figure out how to do it. He’d much rather fix something than replace it.

John was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bernard Welch. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary L. (Wyszynski) Hainsworth; children, Kristin Hainsworth, Stacy Murphy (Kevin), and Nick Hainsworth; father, John Hainsworth, Jr.; mother, Trudy Welch; brother, Kevin Welch; and grandchildren, Bailey, James, and Kiley.

All services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online by clicking here.

  • John fought for many years, and we should look at this as there is no end until absolutely nothing else can be done. His pursuit of finding a cure is something to be remembered by all. • John leaves a huge hole in our family quilt. From teenaged years hayrides, camping, concerts, and later to family events, beach vacations, holiday gatherings in his home, cruises, John was front and center. Taciturn but humorous, always reliable and generous with his time for family friends are my first thoughts when remembering John; the needs of my sister and their children always came first. Men are not made like him anymore. Jim & I grieve for all of you.
