Louenette J. “Jerry” Hughes

Louenette J. “Jerry” Hughes, age 97, of Bear, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
Born in Speedwell, TN on November 21, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Nellie (Marler) Evans. Lounette made her career as a hostess at Marriott Hotels.
Louenette welcomed so many into her home over the years, from Glenville kids to continued extended family. Everyone was welcome and made to feel at home. She loved helping others, cooking, word search puzzle books, and the Phillies. Her greatest loves though, were Jesus, her family, and their pets. Wednesday dinners, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, holiday brunches, rice and chicken, center cut brownies, and chocolate pie will be forever missed.
In addition to her parents, Louenette was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Hughes; children, Virginia Foskey, Larry Hughes, and Beverly Miko; and grandson, William Miko. She is survived by her sons, Thomas Butler (Marilyn) and George Hughes (Debbie); grandchildren, Brian Foskey (Morgan), and Christopher Miko; and great-grandsons, Kyle Foskey and Liam Fountain.
A graveside service will begin at 11 am on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

Mrs Hughes was my neighbor in Glenville. She was the sweetest lady ever. I loved her. I worked with her one summer during college break waitressing, what a gamble she was taking on me. And I really enjoyed getting to know her better during that time. I am so sorry for your loss. Many prayers for you all, Janet

Jerry was the sweetest woman. Every time we came to town she would get upset if we didn’t stay with her. She was so loving and generous. She made everyone feel so special. My condolences to you all. She will be forever loved and missed.

Thinking of you all as you honor this wonderful, unforgettable woman. I remember hearing all about this incredible matriarch the first time Morgan introduced Brian. She was the true heart and spark of the family. Even at 97, it is never enough time with someone you love so much.

Mom-mom… maybe it was your time, and maybe I know that, but I think of the last time I was at your house for Wednesday dinner and I didn’t know it would be my last. I miss your food, your radiant smile, the light about you that shone so bright it made everyone around you noticeably brighten up too. She was literally everyone’s mom-mom. We were made to feel like family the minute we met her down in Glenville. She welcomed us all into the family immediately and it continues to this day. We’re so sorry for everyone’s loss, we will miss her amazing smile, her world-class hugs, and definitely her biscuits & gravy. This world has lost an absolute angel. Rest safely in the arms of your King, mom-mom. We love you.
