Janet C. (Allen) Brown

April 12, 1937 - August 21, 2026

Janet C. (Allen) Brown, age 89, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Born on April 12, 1937, to Woodrow and Dorothy Allen of New Gretna, New Jersey, Janet was the oldest of four siblings. She married the love of her life, Robert, and they shared 58 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and love. Together, they raised two sons and a foster daughter.

Janet was a devoted Christian and a faithful servant of Christ throughout her life. Her faith was reflected in the many ways she served others. She served as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, as a deacon in her church, and as the leader of the junior choir. She was also active in the PTA and Ladies Auxiliary, generously giving her time and talents to her church and community.

Music held a special place in Janet’s heart, and she treasured the many wonderful memories she made singing with her sisters, Marjorie and Eleanor. The joy they found in singing together was a special part of the bond they shared as sisters.

Janet loved bringing people together and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed entertaining, trips to the casino, and especially playing games with her grandchildren. Many happy hours were spent gathered around the table playing dominoes, creating memories her grandchildren will always treasure. For Janet, the greatest joy was simply being together—sharing laughter, conversation, and time with the people she loved.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert; her brother, Woodrow (Bonnie); and her great-grandson, Wesley.

Janet is survived by her sons, David (Carrie) of Delaware and Robert of New Jersey; her sisters, Marjorie (Robert) and Eleanor (the late James); several brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. She was a proud and loving grandmother to six grandchildren: James (Katherine), Jenna (Nathan), Danielle (Henry), Robert (Jessica), Alexis (Steve), and Samantha; and was blessed with nine great-grandchildren.

Janet is also survived by many dear friends whose lives she touched throughout the years, including her dearest friend, Gwen Mickens-Dolan, and her family.

Above all, Janet will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her devotion to her family, her love of music, and the joy she found in bringing people together. Her life was filled with faith, family, friendship, laughter, and love, and those who knew and loved her will carry those memories with them always.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, Delaware, where a memorial service celebrating Janet’s life will begin at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow the service, and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Janet’s memory to Elsmere Presbyterian Church, 606 New Road, Wilmington, DE 19805.
