John Andrew Baker, Sr., age 62, of Smyrna, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
Born in Wilmington, DE on October 5, 1963, he was a son of Patricia A. (Foster) Stewart and the late Charles Edward Moore. John attended Brandywine High School in Wilmington. He began his culinary career as a chef at Schaefer’s Canal House in his early years. John later worked in various professions, before he and Robin owned and operated Bakers Seafood & Pasta in Smyrna. Following the closing of the restaurant, he went to work for SWM in Middletown for the next for the next 16 years.
John loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He always enjoyed playing football with them. John often challenged his loved ones to a card game, poker being his favorite.
John is survived by his children, John Baker, Jr., Drew Baker (Candace), Meghan Baker (Jacob), and Anthony Baker (Alexis); stepson, Jim Ginn; siblings, Charles Baker and Julie Paulino; grandchildren, Braelyn, Miley, Blakeley, and two on the way- one due in November and one due in March; lifelong friend, Robin Baker; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE
