A. Donald Sutton

November 24, 1936 - April 4, 2023

A. Donald Sutton, age 86, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

Born in St. Georges, DE on November 24, 1936, he was a son of the late Donald F. and Olive (Lane) Sutton. Donald proudly served in the United States Army. He made his career as a chemical operator at Oxidental Chemical.

An avid outdoorsman, Donald could often be found fishing and enjoyed going on camping trips. He was passionate about woodworking, creating beautiful pieces for his family and friends. For many years, Donald bowled in bowling leagues until he was unable to drive at night. He was also a dedicated member of the Delaware City Recreation Club.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara A. Sutton; and brother-in-law, Bill Thomas. He is survived by his son, Edwin Sutton and his companion, Marsha Cauthen; granddaughters, Holly Lott (Joshua), Christina Sutton, and Shaina Sutton; great-grandchildren, Joshua D. Lott, Preston G. Lott, and Jack F. Lott; and siblings, James Sutton (Dee), JoAnne Thomas, Robert Sutton (Eleanor), and Kenneth Sutton (Debra).

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

  • So sorry to hear the news of Donald’s passing. I spent many years at Oxy working with him and a lot of time after work at his place. I will miss our time fishing and Vinnie will miss all the emails ( your jokes) that you use to send to her. Rest in peace my friend. John Hughto
