A. Paul Johnson, age 53, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017.

A native Delawarean, Paul was born in Wilmington on November 24, 1963, and was the son of the late Albert H. and L. Paula (Lindell) Johnson. He made his career with Adams Auto Parts in Wilmington, where he worked as parts deliverer. Paul also worked part time as a parking attendant for the Wilmington Blue Rocks.

Active in his community, Paul was a 38 year life member of Five Points Fire Company. In his early years there, he volunteered as an ambulance attendant and for the past 17 years, he served with the Fire Police, responding to between 75 and 218 incidents per year. Paul also gave of his time by volunteering as a bartender for many events at the fire hall and on a variety of the fire company’s committees, including the Bar & Hall and Fire Prevention Committees.

He is survived by his mother, L. Paula Johnson of Wilmington; brothers, Eugene C. Gene Johnson, Sr. (Jeanne) of Wilmington and James E. Johnson, Sr. (Patti) of New Castle; and nieces and nephews, Kaitlin Johnson (fiancé, Joe McHugh), Eugene C. Johnson Jr., James E. Johnson, Jr., and Samantha L. Johnson.

A gathering for family and friends will be held from 12 Noon until 2 pm on Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2017, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 2 pm. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Paul’s memory may be made to the Five Points Fire Company, 209 S. Maryland Ave., Wilmington DE 19804.

  • I met Paul in first grade and we remained friends through out the years. Even as i have moved over the years, Paul was always a constant friend in my life. Paul was always there when I came back to Delaware and we always caught up with each other. Paul and I went to Prom together and have always remained friends.   • I was saddened to hear of Paul’s passing. As a honorary member of Five Points Fire Company, I remember Paul fondly. Paul took to heart the message that you had to “show up” when needed. He certainly did that. Recent surgery kept me from attending his services, but my thoughts and prayers are with his entire family. Please accept my most sincere condolences.
