Alan Brothwood
March 12, 1990 - April 10, 2026
Alan Brothwood, age 36, of Middletown, DE, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, April 10, 2026. He was a devoted father, husband, son, brother and friend, and he will be truly missed by so many.
Alan was born on March 12, 1990, and grew up in the Newark and Hockessin, DE area. Growing up, Alan was incredibly smart, witty, and funny. He loved spending time outdoors, hanging out with his friends in the neighborhood and spent many summers at the pool with his swim team and friends. Alan also spent a lot of time in Ireland, where he would go visit his family.
Alan graduated from St. Mark’s High School in 2008, where he ran cross country. After high school, he worked at ACME Markets and took classes at Delaware Tech for a short time. In June 2012, he began his career with ING Direct, who then merged with Capital One. Alan dedicated almost 14 years to Capital One, working his way up through the call center and eventually finding his place as Quality Assurance Manager. He met so many wonderful coworkers, who would become friends, and spent countless hours at the ping pong table on his breaks and lunch.
In April 2014, he met his wife Brittney, at Capital One in the call center. They had a couple dates and were inseparable after that. They married in November 2019, at Deerfield Country Club, and the day couldn’t have been more perfect. They spent an incredible 12 years together and 6 ½ years married.
Alan’s greatest accomplishment came on February 1, 2022. The day their son Cooper was born. The moment they found out Cooper was on the way; he felt new purpose. He was so excited and could not wait to become a father. Any time Alan would talk about Cooper, he would show him off and you could feel the pride and the deep love that he had for him.
Alan was an avid golfer, he loved going to the driving range or going out on the golf course early and spending the day playing 18. He was a huge Philly sports fan, always watching his Phillies, Eagles, or Sixers and attending as many games as he could. He also loved playing video games, watching movies, sneakers, podcasts, listening to music, and spending time with his family and friends.
Alan was a true family man, he loved his wife, son, and dog, Harley, with everything he had. Alan had the greatest energy, always remained himself, could bring out a random fact or movie/tv show quote at the drop of a hat, could always make you laugh with a joke or sarcasm, and made such an impact on every person he met.
Alan is survived by his wife, Brittney; their son, Cooper; his mom, Val (Scott); his sister, Lisa; his in-laws, Renn and Cathy; sister in-law, Alyssa (Brandon); and his childhood best friend,Pat (Alisa). He is preceded in death by his nana and grandad, and his beloved stepdad, Dennis.
A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at the Middletown Fire Hall, 27 West Green Street, Middletown, DE, on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 12:00-5:00PM. The family invites all who knew him to come as you are and share their favorite memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a GoFundMe set up in Alan’s honor, to help support his son and provide for his future by clicking here.

Wow Brothwood, sorry to hear of your passing. I know I had a short stint in DE but during my time there you were a cool dude and we used to battle on that ping pong table. RIP friend

Sending so much peace, healing and love to Brittney, Cooper and his whole family. I am so sorry for this loss, it is devastating. Regrettably, I won’t be able to attend his celebration of life so I thought I’d leave my respects here. Alan was an amazing person and I had the pleasure of working with him. He advocated for me and got me to where I am today and I will always be grateful for that. He was so proud of his wife and son- we loved his weekly Cooper updates ever since he was born! Alan was truly a caring, considerate person- he helped me when I lost some loved ones during the pandemic and I remember that so fondly and wish I could thank him for that. I will miss all the comradery and talks about life he had with all of us, he truly became a friend beyond a leader and coworker. I truly respected and looked up to him! I know his positivity & memory will live on in all of our hearts. Rest easy Alan- you surely will be missed. 🕊️🤍 Sending all my love. -Brenna
