Alex Mattson

Alex Mattson, age 95, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family from a broken heart.  Alex’s wife of 66 years, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.  True love is an understatement.

Born in Bronx, NY on August 10, 1929, he was the son of the late Bruno Mattson and Elma Hollsten.  For many years, Alex owned and operated his own flooring company.  In his earlier years he was a figure skater, which is where he met his wife, and placed second in World Nationals.  Alex owned a family farm in MD and later sold to the Amish.

In addition to his parents, Alex was preceded in death by his wife, Georgie Mae (Miller) Mattson; and son, Michael Alex Mattson.  He is survived by his son, Bernard “Beau” S. Merkins, Jr. (Tammy); and several nieces and nephews.

All services will be held privately.  Alex will be buried with his wife at All Saints Cemetery.
