Allen Payne

December 24, 1953 - October 29, 2024

Allen Payne, 70, of New Castle, DE, passed away on October 29, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family and friends.

Born on December 24, 1953, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Allen was the son of James Payne and Ada Webster Payne Amy. He grew up in Claymont, Delaware, where he graduated from Claymont High School in 1972. Allen’s life was a journey defined by love, laughter, and a profound dedication to his family.

Above all, Allen was a family man. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and an adored grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend. On January 29, 1994, he married the love of his life, Diane Payne. Together, they shared 30 beautiful years of marriage, filled with laughter, companionship, and unwavering love. Diane was truly his “pea in a pod,” and their bond was the heart of his world.

Allen is lovingly remembered by his wife, Diane; his daughters, Megan Fallers and Nicole Holecek; and his sons-in-law, Matthew Fallers and David Holecek. His grandchildren—Kellan, Landon, Madden, and Hayden—were the lights of his life. Allen was a caring brother to Ronald Payne (Kim) of Middletown, DE, and Arlene Gray of Chichester, PA. Allen also leaves behind his parents-in-law, Edward and Leslie Hildreth of Vineland, NJ, his sister-in-law, Malinda Keeney (Jim) of Bristol, PA, his brother-in-law Derrick Hildreth (Tammy) of Vineland, NJ, and his aunt Molly Payne Colbert of Lufkin, Texas. Allen was preceded in death by his parents James Payne and Ada Webster Payne Amy; his stepfather, Raymond G. Amy; his sisters, Gloria Hope Payne, Ella Brown, and his brothers, Raymond and John Amy.

Family was at the core of Allen’s life. Known for his easy laugh, helping hand, and generous spirit, Allen was often the favorite in any family gathering. He was especially close to his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, each of whom holds special memories of “Uncle Allen”—memories filled with laughter, joy, and the kind of unconditional love that only he could give.

Allen was also a dedicated “dog dad” who doted on his pups with homemade meals and endless affection. There was rarely a moment when he didn’t have a dog on his chest or in his lap, showering them with the same love he shared with everyone in his life.

He had many passions—space, woodworking, cooking, and art. Allen had a natural talent for everything he attempted, excelling not only through skill but also by sharing his love for these pursuits with his family. His grandsons, who joined him on telescope adventures, now share his awe for the universe—a legacy he lovingly passed down.

Allen was a master home builder whose craftsmanship was renowned. Clients became lifelong friends, and his meticulous work often left distributors amazed that his plans were drawn by hand rather than a computer. He approached every project with the same unwavering attention to detail, driven by his love of perfection.

Throughout his life, Allen made friends effortlessly, often bringing treats like donuts or Hershey’s kisses to brighten someone’s day, whether it was for a doctor’s office staff or his favorite vet techs. He had a rare gift for spreading kindness wherever he went, making friends in every corner of his life.

Allen’s presence touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, generosity, and genuine kindness left an indelible mark on family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Allen’s legacy lives on in the love he shared, the lessons he imparted, and the countless lives he brightened with his warmth and humor. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit and memory will forever be cherished. Allen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
