Amanda “Katy” (Moore) Arizmendi Nava
March 31, 1989 - May 24, 2023
Amanda “Katy” (Moore) Arizmendi Nava, age 34, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully in her lifelong home on Wednesday afternoon, May 24, 2023.
Born in Newark, DE on March 31, 1989, she was a daughter of Phillip Moore and Kathy Stearley. In Katy’s short time with us, she was a student, a dental assistant, a chef, a yogi, a manager, a business owner; she was someone who went through the hell of addiction and jail and turned it all around to flourish in adulthood; she was a mother, a sister, a daughter, a cousin, a granddaughter, a niece, and a friend.
It’s difficult to find the right words to capture who Katy was. Kind, funny, compassionate, snarky, adventurous, headstrong – these are all aspects of her personality, but who she was can’t be captured by words alone. Although her life was cut short, no one can say that she didn’t grab it by the horns while she was here.
If you were one of those lucky enough to cross one of her many paths, you’ll remember her humor and compassion. Katy was someone who did what she wanted and accepted whatever consequences came with that – no one can say she didn’t truly live while she could, and there’s no telling what she could have accomplished had she had more time. She touched so many lives and made so many friends, she worked so hard and put all of herself in any endeavor she decided to tackle, big or small.
Katy was admirable. She donated her time helping to change lives through her dental work in Mexico. Katy helped people who were at some of their lowest points through her cleaning business – never approaching any situation with judgment, always with compassion and empathy. She changed the lives of everyone around her for the better, though you’d never hear her admit it. Katy was always there if you needed to talk or just hang out and laugh. Above all else, Katy was present.
She was also a ball-buster who was always up for finding the humor in a situation, and you could always trust her to share a knowing look if something crazy was going on around you. Katy loved animals and babies, and she had impeccable taste in everything, relishing in the chance to curate her dream bedroom towards the end of her journey with us. She was endlessly creative and had an energy for people that is very rare to see, and we were all lucky to catch a glimpse while we could.
Katy’s memory lives on in her husband, Alexis; daughter, Lila; mom, Kathy; siblings, Justin and Sarah; stepfather, David; grandparents; aunt, Patti; cats, Gnocchi and Pesto; and dog, Mason.
She left us all with a gift: her heart, which she leaves us in her daughter, Lila. Katy flourished in her love for her daughter and their love for each other was clear to anyone who was lucky enough to witness it firsthand. She gave Lila a strong foundation of love that her family and friends will help continue to build as she grows and remembers her mommy, who loved her more than anything else on this earth. She will be missed.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. Services and interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katy’s memory to Tree Tops Kitty Café, 305 West State Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348 or online by clicking here.

I heartbroken to hear of Katy’s passing. While she and I lost touch outside of social media, we were friends and classmates for nine crucial years at St Hedwig’s. Katy is so intertwined with many of my childhood memories. When I think of her, I think of bonbon nail polishes, Spice Girls, recesses spent along the church, her curly hair and big laugh, Charlie Brown Christmas pageant, and so many more memories. Sending prayers and peace to her family at this time and always.

I’m so sorry to hear of Katy’s passing. We were good friends in grade school but lost touch after high school. We became fb friends and it was so nice to see Katy grow as a person and a mother. My heartfelt condolences go out to her daughter and the rest of her family.

The loss of Katy is absolutely heartbreaking. My condolences, thoughts, and prayers are with her husband, daughter, family and friends. I had the pleasure of meeting Katy freshman year of high school and got to go through those teenage years with her as my friend. After high school, we stayed in touch on and off. She was always one of my favorite people to reconnect with. Her life was an adventure. It was always interesting to hear what she had been up to. Thank you, Katy, for being such a genuine, caring, and admirable friend. I love you.

Katy was such an important part of my life and changed it for the better. She was one of the first friends I made when I transferred to St Hedwig and we stayed close for a while and whenever we reconnected, it was like no time had passed. These last few years I got to speak with her again have been a gift, as I know her presence and friendship was for so many people. Sending all my love and condolences to her family.
