Barbara Mae Lewis, age 81, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024, at home surrounded by her loved ones.  Barbara was kind, caring, and loved by many.  She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Born in her family home in North East, MD on July 29, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Celia Belle Kerns and Elmer Kline Kerns. Barbara graduated from North East High School in 1960.  In her senior year, Barbara was the captain of the cheerleading team, the vice president of her class, and she was voted “most versatile”.  Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Robert R. Lewis, on September 30, 1961.  After graduating, she pursued a career working as a secretary at Avon.

Barbara enjoyed watching game shows, playing word games, listening to music, going to aerobics classes and playing outside with her children and grandchildren.  She was also a lover of hummingbirds and baking, especially pies.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her grandson, Benjamin Lewis. She is survived by her husband, Robert R. Lewis; their four children, Robert Lewis II (Pam), Cindy Miller (Kent), Eric Lewis (Amy Ottinger), and Keith Lewis (Danielle); brother, Ken Kerns; and sister, Margie Spotswood.  Barbara and Robert created a village and she is also survived by 10 of her 11 grandchildren, Joshua Lewis, Anna Lee, Heather Midash, Stephanie Lewis, Courtney Sheats, Ahren Lewis, Luke Lewis, Brooke Miller, Aaron Lewis, Emily Lewis; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 pm until 4 pm on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE.  A second visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am where a remembrance service will begin at 11 am at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 135 South Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE. Interment will be held privately.
