Betty (Heverin) Thorp

Betty (Heverin) Thorp, age 82, peacefully passed away at home on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Newark, Delaware.

Born on June 6, 1943, in Wilmington, DE, she was a daughter of the late William Heverin and Helen (Campbell) Sutton. Betty lived a life centered around family and the simple joys that brought her happiness. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and great-grandmother whose presence was a constant source of warmth and support to those around her.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Margaret Seward and her husband, Tim, Sr.; and her son, F. Ray Thorp Jr. and his wife, Melanie. She was a proud grandmother to Amanda Himes (Richard), Tim Seward Jr., R. Dylan Pennypacker, and Kassidy Thorp (Austin Mieczkowski). Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Alan, James, Alicia, Charliegh, and Gunner. Betty also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, F. Ray Thorp Sr.; brother, William Heverin; sister-in-law, Catherine Heverin; sister, Helen Simpers; nephews, Billy Joe Heverin and Andrew Heverin; and granddaughter, Ashley Seward.

Betty found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and the family dog, Diesel. She especially loved watching the family work on their race cars and hearing all about their races the next day – moments that brought excitement and pride into her life.

Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. May it bring comfort to those she leaves behind.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
