Betty Jo Abner

March 22, 1930 - April 18, 2018

Betty Jo (Kesterson) Abner, age 88 of Kingston, TN, formerly Elkton, MD and Newark, DE entered Heaven’s gates on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN, joining her loving husband of 63 years, William ‘Ralph’ Abner.

Born in Briceville, TN on March 22, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Emory and Mary (Foust) Kesterson.

The family would like to thank Brookdale/White Chapel Memory Care (Newark, DE) and Brookdale Assisted Living Kingston, TN for their love and care Betty Jo received for 3 years.  Brookdale Senior Living/Kingston allowed Betty Jo to regaining her vitality and a provided her a beautiful time to bloom with friends.  She was active in playing cards nightly, jigsaw puzzles, Word Searches and Bingo.  She lead a full-life attending church services & exercise.  Her last years were surrounded by love and hugs from the wonderful CNA’s/Brookdale Staff and feeling safe with family in East TN.  Favorite times were lunch or dinner out with Bob & Gail, attending concerts and drives to the mountains.  She earned her wings taking her ‘first beautiful flight’ into the arms of love.

Betty Jo is survived by daughter, Gail (Abner) Baldwin and favorite son-in-law, Bob Baldwin of Kingston, TN; loving granddaughter, Shelby Rae (Griffith) and husband Christopher Waddell of Lewes, DE; great-grandaughters, Alexis Zalar and Abigail Zalar of Lewes, DE; sister, Margaret Rose (Kesterson) and husband, Dorcy Fritts of Lake City, TN; sister’s-in-law, Betty Lou Ward and Barbara Abner of Lake City, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 8 pm. Interment will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
