Billie F. Sturgeon

September 26, 1945 - August 6, 2025

Billie F. Sturgeon, age 79, of Delaware City, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on August 6, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on September 26, 1945, in Wilmington, Delaware, to the late James R. Sturgeon and Emma (Miller) Sturgeon.

Billie could often be found in her garden, tending to her plants. She had a special fondness for the birds in her backyard—especially her hummingbirds—and delighted in watching and feeding them. A lifelong fan of Elvis Presley, his music was the soundtrack to many cherished moments of her life.

Billie made her career as an industrial secretary at Valley Plastic Inc. before retiring to assume the role of caregiver for her mother, Emma. For 40 years, Billie was a dedicated member of the Delaware City Recreation Club, where she formed countless cherished friendships. She was also a faithful attendee of Reach Church, Bear, Delaware, where her heart for community and service was evident to all who knew her.

Family was the center of Billie’s world. Every Sunday, her home became a gathering place for laughter, love, and the tradition of weekly family dinners—a legacy her loved ones will cherish always.

Billie is survived by her brothers, Stephen Sturgeon and Bruce (Kathy) Sturgeon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Brian; her sisters, Sandra, Emma, Connie, and Camilla; and her brothers, Richard, James and Harry.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Billie’s dear friend, Dorothy Hall, whose daily care, steadfast friendship, and kindness were a true blessing in Billie’s life.

A graveside service will begin at 10 am on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in Delaware City Cemetery, 530 West Clinton Street, Delaware City, DE.

Billie’s life was one of love, generosity, and devotion, and she will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Billie’s memory to the ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929 or online by clicking here.
