Billy Dennis Asbury, Sr., age 85, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

Born in Bluefield, WV on October 14, 1939, he was a son of the late Richard and Nannie Asbury. Billy was a graduate of Pocahontas High School in West Virginia. He then began working in the coal mines. Billy later moved to Delaware where he started his career of more than 30 years with Hercules, as well as the State of Delaware for 10 years.

In his spare time, Billy enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens. He loved traveling, especially with his family, and cherished the memories he made with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his siblings, Marie Flumner and Herbert Asbury. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marlene J. (Finney) Asbury; children, Kathy Greenwell (Terry), Dennis Asbury (Deidra), and Penny Cousins; siblings, Elsie Allison and William Asbury (Patty); 4 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

All services will be held privately.

  • I was so sorry to hear about Bill’s passing. He was one of a kind. Bill was my delivery driver at Maclary. Enjoyed seeing and talking to him everyday. I know he will be missed by so many that knew him.
