A former resident of New York, Chris was an avid New York Giants and New York Rangers fan. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf and was in a pool league. Chris was a giving individual who chose to be an organ donor, and his corneas have provided someone with the precious gift of sight.

Steele of Newark; daughters, Jennifer Steele McDonie (Tommy) of Culloden, WV and Cathrin Steele Ball (Michael) of Barboursville, WV; sister, Susan Steele Storrer of Newark; nephew, Douglas M. Ray; and grandchildren, Isaac, Evan, Carson, Tyler, Dylan, and Audrey.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love, support, and prayers for Chris during his illness and since his death. He had a great summer with friends, who took him to play golf and to the beach between chemo and radiation treatments. The family also wishes to thank his cancer team at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, who were all so kind and supportive.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday morning, November 18, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church of Newark, 292 W Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. Interment will be held privately.

  • We go a long way back my friend. From scorers to the last pool match we played. You will be missed by many my friend. RIP Chris.

  • Chris I am so going to miss you. We only knew eachother for a little over a year but I beleive you were put into my life as well as me in yours for a reason. You helped me through some of the hardest times in my life. Just your encouragement , positivity and mere bluntness helped in ways you probably did not even know. I loved hearing your stories about your family and what you used to do for a living before painting. You loved your family and friends and were such a giving person. You gave me confidence when I didn’t have any and strength when I needed it the most. Pretty much you gave me a good swift kick in the ass and said cmon you can do better than that ! So I thank you and I will miss you so much and our chats . I had promised to take you to the country for a few days and get away and cook you dinner like I did on the painting job and I am so sorry we never got to do that. So close yet so far away. I can look at the color on my walls that you did for me and remember how much fun it was to have you around when I just needed a friend , also fellow Scorpio to hang with. You not only colored my walls you colored my life with brightness when it was so grey. I will miss you my friend I hope you are pain free and in peace. You deserve it.

  • You will be missed my friend. Enjoyed all our chats on FB.

Prayers for your Mom and Susan.

    Mike’s Mom

  • Rest easy my brother. You will definitely be missed but not forgotten.Who is going to keep us posted on what the Blue Hens score is during football season? Ha! Ha! Miss you, and will be thinking of you.

  • For Chris’ family.
He was one of a kind. My father passed away in August of 2017 and while Chris was with cancer, he sent a note of condolences to me. I didn’t know he was sick until just recently. This just shows the unselfish man he was, the kind of man he was just by this simple showing of kindness and thoughtfulness. I wish I had been able to let him know how grateful I was. He was a crushable guy in high school and I will always remember him for many reasons. Thank you, Chris. My heart is filled even all these years later.
