Cali Lynn “Bug” Kolmonen - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Cali Lynn “Bug” Kolmonen

January 14, 2013 - August 6, 2019

Cali Lynn “Bug” Kolmonen, age 6, of Middletown, DE, received her angel wings as she passed peacefully in the arms of her mother at A.I. Dupont Hospital on August 6, 2019.

Born in Wilmington, DE on January 14, 2013, she was the daughter of Michael Andrew Kolmonen and Brittany Elizabeth (Kelley) Stansell.

Cali loved being surrounded by family and friends. Her laughs were infectious and you couldn’t help but giggle when her snorting started. A group sing a long of Nai-Nai’s rendition of 3 Little Fishies, Mom-Mom singing Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, or anyone singing music from The Little Mermaid, Frozen or Moana movies was when Cali was happiest. Her area would instantly become a movie theater, playground or cafe depending on her needs. Her bed was constantly covered with stuffed animals as well as adults and children, it was the hub of the home and the first stop when someone walked through the door. She loved the water, being outside and anything mermaid. Cali was a girly girl and she was always excited when Mommy did her hair and painted her nails.

She will be forever cherished by her mother and step-father, Brittany (Kelley) and Aaron Stansell, father Michael Kolmonen, and devoted brother, Aidan Stansell. Cali is the beloved granddaughter of Kimberli Kelley and Kymberlee Kolmonen as well as the great granddaughter of Vivian Kolmonen; also survived by aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, and cousins.

Cali brought so much love and light to everyone who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her. Everyone who knew her or those just passing by could see that she was so full of love. Bug showed the world that even in the toughest times it is possible to continue to be happy.  Cali’s very contagious smile could bring light to even the darkest of days. She was truly heaven sent and God blessed us with Cali as a reminder to be strong and smile everyday while being grateful for all we have. Although these times are hard for us, Cali is free from the suffering of Mitochondrial Disease.  We know she is in heaven; finally able to run, play and talk with all the other angels. She will be forever in our hearts.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 noon on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 12 noon.  Interment will be held privately.  The family is requesting that instead of black, everyone wear a bright color to match Cali’s personality.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to J-Foundation Inc., P.O. Box 141, Thorndale, PA 19373 or A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children 1600 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.

  • We’re so glad we had the opportunity to meet Cali, and see her several times, while visiting family in Delaware. She seemed to light up a room whenever she was smiling, laughing and giggling….. That is what we will remember of her. Cali “spoke” love and light into the lives she touched, without saying a word. Through Cali, we’ve learned to overcome challenges by changing our attitude and to focus on our blessings. We truly feel that Cali was an angel here on Earth, fullfilling her Heavenly duty of teaching all those around her how to show and share love, and to focus on God, not our problems. She was wise beyond her years, and we’ll never forget her. Our condolences to Brittany, Aaron, Cali’s father, her grandmother Kim, and to ALL of Cali’s friends and other family members. Let’s carry on Cali’s legacy of showing and sharing love, no matter what life brings us. We love you all!
